Breast lift

What does breast lift | mastopexy mean?

Many women have the problem of sagging breasts that have lost elasticity and volume after breastfeeding or after losing a lot of weight. A breast lift offers the possibility of restoring a youthful, firm shape to the breasts with a beautiful cleavage. Even if there is no medical necessity for this indication, it is often a psychological burden for those affected and a correction almost always means an increase in quality of life for most patients. This also applies to breast reduction.

Information on the surgical procedure

In a breast lift, the individual anatomy is decisive for the lifting technique and is performed either via an incision around the nipple with an additional vertical incision, i-incision (see illustration). If there is a lot of excess skin, an additional incision in the underbust crease is necessary, a T-incision (see illustration). In isolated cases, a lift around the nipple alone can lead to the desired result.

As with a reduction, the breast is also reshaped during a lift. (A lack of volume can also be compensated for with additional implants).

Hospital stay and anesthesia

Both procedures are performed under general anesthesia. The operation takes 2 hours. Depending on the extent of the procedure, an inpatient stay of 2-4 days is necessary.
