What is botulinum toxin type A?
Botulinum toxin type A is a protein produced by the anaerobic bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When administered in low doses and purified, this neurotoxin offers significant medical benefits.
Botulinum toxin type A is injected in small amounts. In the muscle area, it inhibits the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, leading to reduced muscle activity after 3–4 days. Since the facial muscles are connected to the skin, this relaxes the wrinkles. The aesthetic botulinum toxin type A injection corrects excessive facial movements and thus addresses the cause of wrinkle formation.
The medication is administered in such a low dosage that it acts only locally and does not enter the bloodstream.

Potential Risks
