What Is an Arm Lift?
Arm lifts are body-contouring surgeries that may be covered by public health insurance plans.
These procedures are indicated when, following significant weight loss or with advancing age, the skin’s elasticity and fullness have diminished. Redness and inflammation may develop in the existing skin folds, which may also require treatment by a dermatologist. Occasionally, an arm lift must be performed in combination with liposuction.
Information on the operation
An arm lift removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the upper arm. There are various techniques, each tailored to the patient’s individual anatomical characteristics. In a minor arm lift, where there is minimal excess skin, a lift can be performed with a discreet scar in the armpit area. With the horizontal incision technique, excess skin is removed from the upper arms up to the armpit. This procedure is suitable for patients with moderate excess skin. With the T-incision and L-incision techniques, an additional vertical incision must be made in the armpit area; otherwise, the excess skin and fat cannot be removed. This technique is necessary following significant weight loss.
Hospital stay and anesthesia
All procedures are performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the extent of the procedure, a hospital stay is required, which can last between 2 and 7 days.
