Since June of this year, we, Plastic Surgery Frankfurt | Hochtaunus, have been offering the new physical „Light therapy“ for the treatment of acne inversa, acne, and acute abscesses. Particularly in the case of acne inversa, light and radiofrequency therapy offers „Light therapy“for the first time the option to provide long-term care for chronic patients and enable them to manage their disease largely free of symptoms or with eased symptoms.
At the„Light therapy“ it is a non-invasive procedure based on the application of various light spectra and radiofrequency to the affected skin. This procedure has proven to be extremely effective in a study by the University Medical Center Mainz (initial results were presented by Dr. Sophia Wilden at the DDG in Berlin; the publication of the complete study will follow shortly). Treatment is applied directly to the inflammatory lesions. The bactericidal effect of the light and the small thermal wound of the non-ablative radiofrequency accelerate abscess maturation and usually provide immediate pain relief. In addition to the improvement of the lesions, many study participants also showed a significant increase in quality of life.
You are undoubtedly as familiar with the problem of chronically recurring abscesses and fistulas in skin folds, mostly in the armpit, groin, and pubic areas—in other words, acne inversa/hidradenitis suppurativa—as we are. Unfortunately, until now, medical therapies and repeated local surgical interventions have not offered options that were permanently applicable and successful. The „Light therapy“ is gentle on patients and therefore also suitable for long-term therapy.
In addition to antibiotic therapy and surgical excision, we therefore offer this gentle treatment option.
The „Light therapy“ is also used by us to prepare for surgery in order to minimize inflammatory areas, for scar correction, or as a purely preventive measure.

As a recently approved therapy, the „Light therapy“ This service is not covered by statutory health insurance and is therefore a self-pay service. However, patients can submit a claim for reimbursement. They will receive assistance with this process.
