Free flap surgery is a microsurgical transfer of tissue. Under the surgical microscope, blood vessels with a diameter of up to one millimeter are connected. Supermicrosurgery is an advancement of microsurgery in which vessels with a diameter of less than 1 mm are connected. Particularly in lymphatic surgery, one relies on the technique of supermicrosurgery.
