What does blepharoplasty mean
An eyelid surgery means an eyelid lift in the upper and/or lower eyelid area.
Upper and lower eyelid lifts may become necessary over time due to the sagging of the skin and muscle around the eye. Eyelid surgery is usually performed for aesthetic reasons, but upper eyelid surgery can also be medically necessary if there is an existing visual field restriction. The fatty tissue on both the lower and upper eyelids can swell and, in combination with the sagging muscles and skin, cause unsightly eye bags.
The aim of blepharoplasty is to tighten the sagging tissue, thus "lightening" your gaze and making your eyes sparkle.
Depending on your level of suffering and severity, you should decide for yourself when to undergo surgery. Of course, we are at your side to offer advice. Eyelid surgery is one of the most frequent plastic and aesthetic operations we perform.
Information on the operation
During upper eyelid surgery, after marking the excess skin, muscle, and potentially fat tissue, the skin is locally anesthetized. The skin incision may extend slightly upward beyond the outer corner of the eye so that excess skin is also tightened laterally. The excess skin, musculature, and, if applicable, fat tissue are surgically removed, the muscle is tightened, and the skin is then closed with a fine skin suture. The scar will be positioned almost invisibly within a skin fold.
Hospital stay and anesthesia
Upper and lower eyelid surgery can be performed individually or together under local anesthesia with or without twilight sedation. At the explicit request of the patient, upper and lower eyelid surgery can also be performed under brief general anesthesia.
A hospital stay is not required for eyelid surgery.
