We were able to use the three-week Easter vacation 2023 in Hesse together with our daughter for an INTERPLAST-GERMANY mission in Paraguay.
Since 2001, it was our 9th mission together with our colleagues and friends Dr. Gloria and Enrique Duerksen-Braun from Darmstadt, whose families live in Paraguay.
In the small hospital in Maria Auxiliadora near the Argentine border, over 100 patients were waiting for us. Together with a team of local nurses and doctors, all patients, young and old, were examined, families were consulted, and approximately 80 surgeries were successfully performed without complications.
Children with cleft lips and palates, hand deformities, burns, and many tumors were operated on.
The team was specially honored for its more than 20 years of humanitarian work in a ceremony at the parliament in Asunción. The next mission to Paraguay is already planned. A modern hospital is being built in María Auxiliadora, and we are invited to its inauguration. Many thanks for the generous donations that make such humanitarian missions possible!
